Museum seeks city OK for Calder sculpture – after the fact

When the San Diego Museum of Art installed an Alexander Calder sculpture near its entrance in June, officials were thrilled to have the city's only major piece by the American modernist so front and center. Plus, the sculpture ties in nicely with the museum's upcoming exhibit of Calder's jewelry. But museum officials forgot one detail: getting approval from the city.
